NTL Migration Plan

Following criticism from the Bursars’ Committee and CUSU over their handling of telephone connections in student rooms, NTL have produced a document stating:

  • how they propose to tidy up all existing account queries and disputes;
  • how they propose to provide telephone services to student bedrooms in future.

In brief, they propose to cease offering the current post-paid account service, and move to a pre-paid calling card service, with PIN numbers.

  • NTL expect Colleges to sell the initial pre-paid cards to students.
  • Students should be able to recharge cards over the web with a credit card.
  • Phones in bedrooms will be permanently set to the calling-card system, with no distinction between students and conference delegates using calling cards: this means that no mass transfers of phones between student-style accounts and ‘warm-line’ conference settings will be necessary each vacation.
  • Inward calls will be possible at all times.

The full document is available for download; please also discuss the issue in the forums!
