About the Club
The Emmanuel College Football Club provides opportunities to undergraduates and graduates of college to play football in the inter-collegiate football competitions of Cambridge as well as in the knockout ‘cuppers’ tournaments. This includes two men’s teams (with the possibility for a third if there is enough interest) and a women’s team.
Men’s Football
The men’s first team is currently in the second division (there are eight divisions in Cambridge) having been promoted last year. The firsts provide a competitive atmosphere for those who like to play football that little bit more seriously. The men’s second team is currently in the fourth division. There is often a crossover with the firsts and seconds and it is normal for players to find themselves playing for both teams. Generally there is training once a week at the Wilberforce Road sports fields and a fitness/kick-about once a week on parker’s piece just behind college. Matches are generally on Saturday afternoons. If there is enough interest, there is also the possibility of a men’s third team. Whatever level of ability and experience, there will be an opportunity for you play football at Emmanuel.
Women’s Football
The Emmanuel women’s team is known as the ‘Pink Panthers’. They are known for their team spirit demonstrated by the fact that university-level players and those who have hadn’t played before coming to university train and play together. They are also the reigning champions of Cambridge having won the knockout ‘cuppers’ tournament last year. They also compete in the women’s competition. Training is once a week and matches are normally on Saturdays. Don’t worry even if you’ve never kicked a ball before, you will be coached and before long, be a part of the Pink Panthers team!
Social Events
Socially, there are a lot things going on in the Emmanuel College Football Club. Whether it be curry nights or watching football in the JCR, playing football is a great way to meet and socialize with people across all year groups. Annually, we have the Christmas dinner, the old boys match and the AGM, which are also good fun.
