Emmanuel has one of the strongest and most active music societies of any of the colleges in Cambridge. Concerts by different groups and in many different styles are given regularly around the college, with good audiences at all.
The Emmanuel College Orchestra is proud to be one of few complete symphony orchestras in the Cambridge colleges and made up entirely of non-auditioned players. Recent performances have included Finlandia by Sibelius, Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Bizet's Carmen Suite, and Mozart Symphony No. 40. Players of any standard are very warmly invited to join.
The Emma Chorus is open to anybody who enjoys singing. It performs a huge range of repertoire, from classical to barbershop, and its performances are always huge successes. Again, anyone of any ability is welcome to join.
There are also around college a huge number of smaller groups; everything from string trios and guitar quartets, to brilliant solo singers and instrumentalists, to bands and DJs. Whatever your style or level of playing, Emmanuel will have something for you. Additionally the college has a number of funds that can pay for lessons for students who take part in college music.
Freshers are invited to prepare a piece to perform at the Freshers’ concert which will take place in Michaelmas Term. Additionally, there will be further opportunities for all members of the college to perform throughout the year.
